Strain transducer

Strain measurement directly on the component

Strain gauges measure the local strain on machine components, thereby enabling indirect force measurement within the component. The measurement is carried out via an integrated full-bridge strain gauge circuit, which precisely records the deformation of the gauge when under load.

Typical applications

They are used when forces or stresses need to be monitored directly on the component. Typical applications include conveyor and lift technology, as well as the monitoring of stresses on masts, beams and other steel or aluminium structures.

Assembly & Installation

The transducer is screwed onto a flat surface of the material. There is no need for a separate strain gauge application, as the measuring point is fully integrated. The geometry and material pairing between the transducer and the component influence the signal behaviour; therefore, an initial calibration under typical environmental conditions is recommended.

Measuring chamber & protection of the strain gauges

The DMS full-bridge is housed in a sealed measuring chamber filled with a highly elastic encapsulant. This reliably protects the measuring points from mechanical and chemical influences and ensures stable measurement performance during operation.

Electrical connection

Strain gauges are designed to be connected to measurement amplifiers. The shield of the connecting cable is not structurally connected to the surface of the gauge, in order to ensure interference-free signal transmission.

Functional test

The transducer’s nominal output can be checked using an integrated calibration test signal. This allows the operation of the entire measurement chain – from the transducer through the amplifier to the downstream electronics – to be checked without applying any mechanical load.
