A distance/displacement sensor is used to measure the distance between an object and a reference point or changes in length. The change in distance is converted into a standard signal or transmitted to the control unit via a field bus.
Displacement measurement is used, for example, in the operation of CNC controls or positioning systems. A strain sensor is used in materials testing or machine monitoring.
Displacement sensors can be used in automation technology, e.g. for quality assurance and for monitoring an ongoing process. The change in height, outer diameter, thickness or even the length of the object can be monitored during the production process. If the corresponding value deviates from the target value, it is possible to intervene in production.
